Venice is an ancient city on a lagoon. It's is famous for many things, including it's lace, glass and textiles.
Glass factory
Interested in glass making, we went to a glass factory in Murano. The moment we steped in, we were hit by a big wave of heat from the furnaces that they used to melt the glass. We watched a profesional glass blower make horses and vases out of burning, hot red glass. the glass blower took a small peace of paper, and put it inside one of the vases. imidiatly thepaper burst into flames, this was surprizing because it did not look hot anymore. in this job you have to work very very quickly or else your glas will harden or drip onto the floor. we also watched a worker polish glass vases to make the botom part (where it was conected to the stick) smooth. Then they gifted us three glass horses one blue, one red, and one black. Finally, they took us to see the glas art musium, there wer lots of difrent creative peces of art. This place was amazing, with all it's bright colors and huge sculptures!
Lace factory
At the lace factory it was mostly just a shop for lace; there were lace dresses, lace cloths, lace pilow cases, and lace siply for decoration. We met a old lady who was teaching an Australian how to make lace. To me it looked very hard. You need lots of patience, steady hand work, and good concentration.
Sadly, not many people want to learn how to make lace anymore, and the only people that know how to do it are old. so this tradison is in danger of being lost.
Textile factory
the first thing that we saw when we walked in was complicated looking wooden mashines our guide told us that these were the machines that were used to make textiles. It was very compicated to set them up and to use them. To work them, you had to pull a cord with your had and push a pedal with your foot.
