1.What is the Roman forum? Why was it important?
The Roman forum is a square in the middle of Rome where there are lots of ancient ruins. In the Roman forum there was the government buildings, markets, and things you might see in a piazza/square today. The reason it was important is because the Sennett was there, and that's where all the important decisions were made. Here is a picture:
2.Identify three structures in the roman forum and who built them.
1. The arch of Titus: Titus was an Roman emperor in the years 79 to 81. (Wow, a long time ago).Israel was already taken over by the Romans, so they made the Jewish slaves build this. Here is a picture of what it looks like:
Also, there is a carved picture on the inside of the Romans taking the Jews as slaves, and taking all their possessions, including a giant menorah and the Arc of the Covenant.
2.Temple of Antonius and Faustina: At the time Antonius Pius was Emperor, from the year 138 to the year 161, he built a temple, dedicated to his wife, Faustina. The temple begun to be built in the year 141. The temple was saved from destruction, cause the church San Lorenzo in Miranda was later built into it.
3. The column of Phocas: When the Roman forum was covered up by a whole bunch of garbage and dirt and rubble, there was so many layers that even this gigantic column was almost completely underground. It doesn't look so big in this picture, but trust me, its BIG. Only the very top of this column was over ground. It measures 44 ft tall, and was built in the 2nd century, for an unknown building.
3.what was your favorite part of the roman forum?
I liked that you could walk on all the Roman roads that were walked on by Emperors thousands of years ago, my favorite structure was the Arch of Titus.
